Pennsylvania senator, Arlen Specter announced he's running as a Dem in the 2010 race. Good for him. His true stripes is as a Dem. That's where he should be. I didn't care for him. He's a classic RINO. Go! Begone! If you're going to be liberal, go Dem. If you're going to be conservative, go Repub or Libertarian.
He'll lose in this race. So, either way, it doesn't matter to me. His career is finished.
I'm from PA and Specter has been a wart on this state for years. He's actually from Kansas and he came to PA as a Dem..and was a Dem until 1966. He joined the Repubs because that was his only chance of getting into PA politics.
ReplyDeleteIn 1976 he ran in the Repub primary for Senate, but lost to John Heinz. In 1978 he tried for the Governor's Office but was beat in the primaries by Dick Thornburgh (who did win the Gov's seat).
In 1995 Specter tried to run against President Bill Clinton, but before the primaries, he suspended his campaign to endorse candidate Sen. Bob Dole..from Specter's old home state, Kansas.
So yeah,Specter jumped ship again and swam back to the Dems. But who knows? He's an opportunist. He may turn to the Repubs yet again one day before he retires... if they're dumb enough to have him.
